Basic Watercolor

Join us to discover your own unique ways of using transparent watercolor paint, from free experimentation to more controlled approaches. Explore mixing and layering colors, while observing flowers, still life, and landscape. Learn color theory, pencil sketching, composition, drawing directly with a brush, and planning area of wash. Everyone is welcome, both first-time and long-time painters. Please bring whatever materials you may already have, or purchase the following supplies: a pan set of transparent watercolors; a pointed round watercolor brush (approximately size 6; handle will be shorter than oil painting brush); pad of 140# watercolor paper; masking tape; pencil; two water containers; and two pieces of cardboard (slightly larger than size of paper).

Evergreen Painting

Pristine snow covering a forest of evergreens makes the perfect subject for a painting. In this class, you will learn perspective in composition, color value, and shading, using acrylic paint on canvas. Art instructor Noreen Powell will take you step by step through the process of creating your own beautiful winter scene. This class is perfect for beginner and intermediate painters. Fall Light-up Wine Bottle

Scientists have linked creative expression to overall wellness, brain stimulation, and stress reduction. Art also enhances cognitive abilities, stimulates imagination, sharpens problem solving skills, and so much more! Art in Mind is a wellness studio that emphasizes the powerful effects that art has on the soul. Students must withdraw five business days before the start of the course for a full refund.

Join the experienced educators from Art in Mind in painting a glass wine bottle that will light up to beautifully glow! You will learn glass painting techniques as we walk you through painting an October scene on a blue wine bottle. The class will include a battery-powered cork with a light string attached to insert into the bottle, embellishments for the bottle, and an extra set of batteries to take with you. All supplies included. No experience necessary.

Faux Tucket Covered Jar

All basket weaving workshops are taught by Joyce Flower. Students will need to bring a pencil, tape measure, old towel, scissors, spring-type clothespins and a small spray bottle. Please note: Fees for materials are non-refundable less than five business days prior to the start of the course.

Have a little fun with this basket, which resembles a Nantucket basket because of the wooden base and cane stakes and weavers. The basket is woven over a glass jar with the base already varnished and attached, and we will use black cane stakes and weave with natural cane weavers in your choice of patterns, from simple to a bit more complicated. This jar is 5鈥 tall by 3 1/2鈥 wide and has a wooden lid. This course includes a $38 materials fee.

Felting Fun!

This course will cover the basics of the beautiful art of needle felting. Needle felting is a very sculptural craft that uses wool yarn and a needle, similarly to how paint and a brush would be used, to create beautiful textural artwork. This class will teach you the basics of felting so you can take what you鈥檝e learned with you and create more pieces on your own. All necessary supplies are included, and the class is suitable for all skill levels, from beginner to seasoned pro.

Holiday Cards

There is no better way to show someone you care than to send them a card handmade by you. In each one of these classes, we will be creating cards that will delight and impress based on different themes. Come create with some amazing colors, images, techniques and folds designed for both the new and experienced stamper. Be sure to bring your own sharp scissors and double-sided adhesive to each class. Course fee includes $10 materials fee.

All rubber stamping classes are taught by Sharyn Bouck, independent Stampin鈥 Up! demonstrator since 1996. Those younger than 14 must be accompanied by a class-registered adult. Contact Sharyn Bouck at sharynbouck@hotmail.com with any questions.

Introduction to Quilling

Learn the basics of quilling (coiling/shaping thin strips of colorful paper) to create a beautiful design suitable for hanging, mailing or framing. Quilling requires a little patience and dexterity, and a willingness to get glue on your fingers, but you will love the results! Alyssa will walk you through the basics of creating shapes, and assist as you create your own unique design.

On the Go Tote

Learn how to weave this tall, rectangular basket, which will be handy for transporting your lunch, groceries or craft supplies. This basket is woven with various sizes of dyed and natural reed. It has a block of color that will be woven with either navy blue or brown, whichever you choose, and will be framed with triple twining with colored reed. The pattern is formed by the placement of colored and natural stakes and the basket is finished with a sturdy leather handle, skeds on the bottom for strength, and a decorative button of your choice. This basket is 13鈥 tall, 12鈥 long and 6鈥 wide. This course includes a $52 materials fee.

Painting in the Style of Renoir

Pierre-Auguste Renoir, like his contemporary, Claude Monet, was a highly accomplished French Impressionist artist. He was a prolific painter of florals, and to celebrate his accomplishments as one of the most famous painters of all time, we will create our own version of Renoir鈥檚 vase of flowers done in the loose, painterly style of the Impressionist era. Join art instructor Noreen Powell for a step-by-step lesson in using acrylics on canvas. This class is perfect for beginner and intermediate painters. All materials, including acrylic paint, brushes and canvas, are provided. Noreen鈥檚 classes are well-structured, relaxing, and a lot of fun!

Watercolor Still Life

Join Noreen Powell for a lesson in watercolor. We will create a slightly abstract version of a still life with fruit and vase. If you have always wanted to try your hand at painting with watercolor, this class is a perfect introduction to learning techniques to help you master the medium.
